Computer Science
Computer Science is taught at KS3, is offered as an option at GCSE and AS/ A Level. Computer Science is becoming an essential skill for life due to the increase use of technology in all aspects of society. We also deliver IT lessons additionally to our younger students as part of our Timetabled Enrichment.
Pupils are not only taught to focus on the mastering of capability with technical skills and techniques but are taught to understand and apply these skills purposefully, safely and responsibly in everyday life and employment.
Pupils use Computer Science skills that allow them to find, develop, analyse and present information, as well as to model situations and solve problems.
All pupils have their own network accounts with filtered Internet access. The school network is equipped with the latest industry standard software which is updated regularly, providing pupils with experience in using some of the most commonly used applications across the globe.

Statement of Intent
Statement of Intent:
We believe that the computer science department must equip our students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to be able to take advantage of future technological developments.
Successful learners:
We aim to give students an understanding of the impact of digital technology to the individual and to wider society.
We hope to develop pupils thinking and problem solving skills that can be applied to a wider range of situations outside the classroom and contribute to students’ lifelong learning. We provide opportunities for students to be creative and use a range of programming techniques so that they acquire an understanding about how real life applications are developed.
Confident individuals:
The department encourage the correct usage of technical language so that students are able to converse about technology with some degree of confidence. We expect our students to become increasingly self-reliant learners as they progress through the key stages. We provide learners with confidence in using resources provided by a wider community as a source of learning.
Responsible citizens:
By encouraging good practice we make students aware of their responsibility of keeping themselves and others safe. We make them aware of the individual moral, social, ethical and cultural opportunities and risks of digital technology that can or may in the future arise from the use of computers.
